Sales of vehicles to commercial fleets from eight manufactures increased 4.2% to 60,149 in February as total car sales outpaced truck sales with a 10.9% increase to 10,191, while sales of trucks, vans, and SUVs increased 3% to 49,958 units when compared to a year ago, according to Automotive Fleet data.
For the year to date, sales to commercial fleets have increased 11.7% to 114,551. Truck-based sales have increased 11.7% to 97,448, and car sales have increased 11.2% to 15,381.
Sales to government fleets from five manufacturers dropped 5.2% to 18,079 for the month with truck sales decreasing 5.8% to 14,879 and car sales falling 2.6% to 3,200. For the year, government sales fell 5% to 35,210 with car sales down 2.8% to 6,001 units and truck-based sales down 5.5% to 29,209.
Daily rental sales from the nine manufacturers increased 4.5% to 184,826 units with a 5.5% decrease in car sales to 79,763 units and a 13.6% increase in truck-based sales to 105,063 units. Year-to-date sales have fallen 2.4% to 309,250 vehicles with an 11.8% decline in car sales to 130,983 and a 5.9% increase in truck-based sales to 178,267 units.
For all three segments, fleet sales in February increased 3.7% from a year ago to 263,054 units with a 3.8% decrease in car sales to 93,154 and an 8.4% increase in truck-based sales to 169,900.
Year to date, the three fleet segments remain flat with a 0.6% decline to 459,011. While car sales have fallen 9.3% to 154,087, truck-based sales have increased 6.5% to 304,924.
