Drivers staying mobile: ATA’s latest report shows driver turnover rate at 97%

Turnover at large truckload fleets — those with $30 million or more in revenue — was 97 percent, while turnover rate at small carriers was 94 percent, according to ATA’s data.

ATA Chief Economist Bob Costello cites improving pay and better benefits — recruiting tactics by fleets — as the reason, all part of what ATA deems is a driver shortage.


Conditions in 2015 could push turnover even higher, Costello says, as the economy continues to improve and freight increases.


The turnover rate at LTL carriers was just 13 percent — a 2 percent increase from the second quarter of 2014.
