FMCSA shuts down owner-operator following alcohol-related violations

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced Feb. 3 it has issued a shutdown order to South Dakota-based owner-operator Lonnie Roth following the revocation of his CDL and his continuing to operate without it.

Roth’s CDL was revoked by regulators in December following the discovery that he operated a commercial vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

Also, investigators discovered in an October 2014 compliance review “serious violations of federal regulations,” some related to alcohol and drug testing and some related to hours-of-service compliance.


The agency ordered the company to cease operations Dec. 28.


But at least on one occasion in January, Roth was found to be operating in violation of the shutdown order. He was also operating under the influence of alcohol on that instance, FMCSA says.
