Roughly a dozen Class 8 trucks will hit the New Jersey Motorsports Park speedway this week for an action-packed weekend of races and more as the Meritor ChampTruck World Series kicks off its inaugural season.
The event will mark the return of a big-rig racing series in the United States after a 20-year hiatus. This race takes place April 24-26 in Millville, N.J.
ChampTruck races will pit real Class 8 trucks – not specially built racers – against one another at 10 premier U.S. race tracks. The races will be full weekend events featuring half a dozen 35-minute road course truck race heats over two days, along with supporting series races, fairground-style activities and more, says series founder and promoter John Condren.
Drivers will earn points throughout the weekend to determine the event’s winners, along with a grand champion at the end of the season.
The ChampTruck finale will take place in Las Vegas on Oct. 30 and Nov. 1.
In addition to Meritor, the series is sponsored by Minimizer and Optima Batteries.
