Hino Motor Sales U.S.A. plans to recall nearly 2,000 medium-duty trucks in the 2015 and 2016 model years because of a steering loss risk, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports.
The recall covers 1,939 Hino 238, 258, 268 and 338 trucks manufactured from Jan. 5 to March 20 of this year. In these vehicles, the U-bolt that connects the suspension springs to the front axle may have been over-tightened. As a result, the bolt may eventually stretch and loosen or fail, resulting in a loss of steering ability.
Hino Motors is still developing a remedy and schedule for the recall, NHTSA said. Truck owners can reach Hino customer service at (248) 699-9300.
