Subaru has added "several refinements" to its Legacy mid-size sedan and Outback wagon for 2016, following a full redesign in 2015, that include an new StarLink infotainment system and expanded EyeSight safety technology. The updates have resulted in only a minimal price increase.
Subaru's 2016 Legacy starts at $22,540, while the Outback starts at $25,845, the automaker has announced. The base models increase the price by only $50 and $950 respectively.
Subaru has also updated its StarLink safety packages. The StarLink Safety Plus package includes SOS Emergency Assistance, Enhanced Roadside Assistance, Automatic Collision Notification, Maintenance Notifications, Monthly Vehicle Health Report and Diagnostic Alerts. The StarLink Safety Plus & Security Plus Package adds Stolen Vehicle Recovery Service, Vehicle Security Alarm Notification, Remote Lock/Unlock, Remote Horn and Lights and Remote Vehicle Locator.
For 2016, Subaru adds lane-keeping assist to its EyeSight safety suite. The option already offered adaptive cruise control, automatic pre-collision braking and lane departure and Sway warning.
On all models, a new auto on/off mode operates the windshield wipers with the headlights. Subaru retuned the electric power-assist steering to provide a more linear and natural feel. In the 2015 redesign, the Legacy Limited trims gained exclusive Stablex suspension dampers, and these have been further refined to significantly reduce vibration over rough roads, especially those with washboard-texture concrete surfaces.
