FCA US Invests $166M in Stamping Plant

FCA US has invested $166 million in its Sterling Stamping Plant to meet increased demand for its Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, and Ram Truck vehicles.

The plant, which is based in Sterling Heights, Mich., stamps and sub-assembles parts from sheet metal, including hoods, roofs, liftgates, side aperatures, fenders, and floor pans. The parts are then shipped to six assembly plants in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

The parts are used in the bodies of the Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Dart, Jeep Compass, Jeep Patriot, Dodge Durango, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Chrysler 200, Jeep Cherokee, and Ram Truck brand vehicles.

Plants using the parts include the Windsor (Ontario, Canada) Assembly Plant, Belvidere (Ill.) Assembly Plant, Jefferson North (Detroit) Assembly Plant, Sterling Heights Assembly Plant, Toledo (Ohio) Assembly Complex, Warren (Mich.) Truck Assembly Plant, and Saltillo (Mexico) Truck Assembly Plant.

The investment includes the purchase and installation of two extra-large High Speed Servo Tandem press lines and one large Servo Progressive press line. The three presses will increase the number of daily stampings by nearly 75,000, or 20 million a year. Sterling Stamping now produces 62 million stampings per year.
