General Motors is recalling 5,493 2014-2015 model-year Chevrolet Impala sedans equipped with ventilated and heated front passenger seats, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.

The vehicles were manufactured from April 15, 2013, to June 19 of this year. They fail to comply with federal safety standards because the automatic occupant sensing system may fail to suppress the front passenger air bag if a child seat is in the front passenger seat, NHTSA said.

GM dealers will correct the calibration-learning error by preconditioning the empty seat and resetting the electronic control unit to a seat zero value. There will be no charge for this service.

Vehicle owners can reach Chevrolet customer service at (800) 222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 15400.
