Gasoline Falls to $2.62 Per Gallon

The price for a gallon of unleaded gasoline fell 6 cents to $2.629 for the week ending Aug. 10, according to federal records.

Prices have fallen to an April low and are now 87.6 cents below year-ago levels, according to U.S. Energy Information Administration data. Average gasoline prices fell in nine regions tracked by the agency, including 11.9 cents to $3.361 on the West Coast. Prices fell at least 3 cents in every region.

Among states, California remains at the top of the list with an average gasoline price of $3.585 per gallon. Five other states have gasoline above $3 per gallon, including Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada, Washington, and Oregon ($3.043). South Carolina gasoline remains the cheapest at $2.198 per gallon. Twenty other states have sub-$2.50 gasoline, according to AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge Report.

Meanwhile, the average price of diesel fell 5.1 cents to $2.617 for the week. Diesel is now $1.226 lower than it was at this time a year ago.
