Gasoline Falls to $2.68 Per Gallon

The price of a gallon of unleaded gasoline has reached its middle-of-May price, after falling 5.6 cents to $2.689 per gallon for the week ending Aug. 3.

The price of gasoline is now 82.6 cents lower than it was a year ago, and it declined in nine regions tracked by the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The sharpest slide came in the Midwest and West Coast regions with a weekly 6.5-cent decline to $2.518 and $3.48 respectively.

Among states, California is still at the top of the list, averaging $3.737 per gallon in the AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge Report. Six other states have gasoline that costs at least $3 per gallon, while 16 states now have gasoline cheaper than $2.50 per gallon.

Meanwhile, the average price of a gallon of diesel fell 5.5 cents to $2.668 for the week. Diesel now costs $1.185 less than it did a year ago.
