Heads up in Midwest: Refinery problem has diesel spiking in some states

fuel pumpA 50 percent reduction in production at an Indiana refinery has diesel prices climbing in some states, though not as dramatically as the 30-cent or higher spikes in gasoline prices caused by refinery’s equipment problems.

Chris Lee over at ProMiles, who produces Overdrive’s daily fuel report, was kind enough to alert us Thursday to a few of the midwestern states where he’s seen an uptick in diesel prices since Wednesday.

Indiana, no surprise, has seen the highest bump, climbing 5.1 cents per gallon.

Keep in mind that’s the increase of the statewide average, so some truck stops have seen even higher day-to-day increases, and some lower.

Other states with noticeable increases in average prices include:

Minnesota: +3.8 cents

Michigan: +2.7 cents

Ohio: +2.3 cents

North Dakota: +2.2 cents

Nebraska: +2.2 cents

Lee says drivers should be cautious of higher fuel prices in these states and the midwest in general. Owner-operators can find fuel prices along their route on ProMilesOnline, too.
