The governors of California, Oregon, and Washington and the premier of British Columbia have partnered with fleets in West Coast states to launch a new initiative intended to accelerate adoption of zero-emission vehicles in public and private fleets, Oregon Gov. Kate Brown announced.
The initiative, West Coast Electric Fleets, is a project of the Pacific Coast Collaborative (PCC), a partnership between the states and province to boost a low-carbon economy on the West Coast.
West Coast Electric Fleets is designed to help fleet managers incorporate zero-emission vehicles and provide access to a peer-to-peer network to help operators learn from one another as they increase use of electric vehicles and associated infrastructure, according to a release from the PCC.
Over 20 vehicle fleets on the West Coast have joined the initiative, including state and provincial fleets, fleets from major cities as well as several smaller cities and counties, and utilities such as the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, the release added.
The PCC aims for EVs to make up 10 percent of all new vehicle purchases by 2016, Gov. Brown said.
