Chevrolet’s next-generation 2016 Malibu will start at $22,500 for the base-level L model, General Motors has announced.

For 2016, Malibu will be offered in five models with pricing at $22,500 for the base-level L, $23,995 for the LS, $25,895 for the LT, and $31,795 for the Premier. Prices for the Malibu Hybrid will be announced closer to its production date, according to GM.

Standard equipment includes 10 airbags, cruise control, push-button start with passive entry and fuel-saving stop/start technology on the base 1.5L 4-cylinder engine.

The new Malibu has added 4 inches to its wheelbase and it is nearly 300 pounds lighter than the previous model, according to GM. It also has added new safety technologies, including Lane Keep Assist, Front Pedestrian Braking and Low Speed Front Automatic Braking.

Using technology from the Chevrolet Volt, the 2016 Malibu Hybrid offers a GM-estimated 48 mpg city, 45 mpg highway — and 47 mpg combined.

The 2016 Malibu will start appearing in dealer showrooms this spring.
