Fleet Management Chapter Holds Meeting at World of Speed

The Pacific Northwest Chapter of The NAFA Fleet Management Association (NAFA) held its chapter meeting September 10 at the World of Speed Museum in Wilsonville, Ore.

Approximately 30 people attended the chapter meeting, with speakers from the museum, Tyree Oil, Advanced Auto Parts, U.S. Fleet Services, and J.J. Kane Auctioneers providing short updates to members.

"Our chapter meeting held at the World of Speed in Wilsonville OR was outstanding!! It was like attending a fleet buffet, the variety of fleet information covered was very satisfying and endless. By the end of the event I was stuffed with fleet ideas. If you are looking for the meat and potatoes on fleet issues this is the place!" said Dan Zenger, NAFA Pacific Northwest Chapter chair and fleet & facilities manager for the City of Longview, Wash.

During the meeting, a lively roundtable discussion happened detailing how the attendees “fell into fleet.” One surprise bonus during this discussion were comments from retired fleet manager Johnnie Schmauder, formerly of Texktronix. He shared his story, summing up his comments stating that, in the end, “not much has changed with the challenges from my time in fleet to today.”

After the meeting, attendees were free to roam the museum floor and take in the displays.

The World of Speed features historic race cars and motorcycles to tell the story of America’s love affair with the automobile and leadership role in world motorsports, according to the museum. It encompasses many aspects of motorsports including drag racing, road racing, land speed racing, motorcycle racing, as well as open wheel and NASCAR. Exhibits also include three racing simulators and a drag-race simulator.  Additional educational displays included the Daytona banking exhibit and “Zero to 1,000 MPH” exhibit, showcasing the history of the land speed record.

This was the last Pacific Northwest Chapter meeting for 2015, upcoming meeting information and dates will be announced shortly.
