Gasoline Inches Higher to $2.33 Per Gallon

The average price for a gallon of unleaded gasoline increased 1.9 cents to $2.337 per gallon for the week ending Oct. 12, according to federal data.

The price of gasoline is now 87 cents lower than it was a year ago, as five of the nine regions tracked by the U.S. Department of Energy saw slight increases during the week. Prices continued to fall in the New England, Rocky Mountain, and West Coast regions. The sharpest increase came in the Midwest, where the price increased 5.3 cents to $2.405.

Among states, gasoline prices remain below $3 per gallon across the nation with California ($2.911) leading the list. Gasoline costs at least $2.50 per gallon in 12 other states. At the other end of the spectrum, gasoline costs less than $2 per gallon in New Jersey ($1.986) and South Carolina ($1.968).

Meanwhile, the average price of diesel increased 6.4 cents to $2.556 per gallon. Diesel is now $1.142 lower than it was a year ago. The price of diesel increased in 10 regions.
