General Motors is recalling 29,295 2016 model-year Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave SUVs because a manufacturing defect may cause the windshield wiper motors to overheat and pose a fire risk, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.

The recall, which got under way Sept. 30, affects vehicles manufactured from Aug. 18 to Sept. 24 this year. NHTSA has advised affected vehicle owners to avoid using the front windshield wipers until a dealer can replace the wiper cover. But if weather conditions make use of the wipers necessary, GM will make arrangements to pick up the vehicle for servicing.

Vehicle owners can reach Chevrolet customer service at (800) 222-1020, Buick customer service at (800) 521-7300, and GMC customer service at (800) 462-8782. GM’s number for this recall is 15780.
