Nearly 11,000 trucks being recalled in Fontaine fifth wheel recall

All major North American truck manufacturers have issued recalls for certain trucks equipped with Fontaine Ultra LT Fifth Wheel connectors, which were recalled by Fontaine in September.

Daimler Trucks North America is recalling approximately 5,801 model year 2011-2014 Columbia Glider, Cascadia, Business Class M2 and Coronado trucks manufactured between April 5, 2010 and June 15, 2013. DTNA will notify owners, and DTNA service centers will replace the fifth wheel with an Ultra NT fifth wheel for free. The recall is expected to begin Nov. 28.

Paccar is recalling approximately 290 model year 2012-2013 Peterbilt 579 and 587 trucks manufactured between Feb. 14, 2011, and Dec. 5, 2012, as well as 2011 Kenworth T700 trucks manufactured between Sept. 21 and Oct. 10, 2010. Paccar will notify owners and dealers will replace the fifth wheel free of charge. Paccar has not yet provided a recall schedule.

Navistar is recalling approximately 3,776 model year 2011-2014 International ProStar trucks manufactured between May 18, 2010, and April 5, 2013; 2012-2014 International LoneStar trucks manufactured between Sept. 7, 2011, and March 25, 2013; and 2011-2013 International TranStar trucks manufactured between Oct. 18, 2010, and Feb. 20, 2013. Navistar will notify owners, and Fontaine dealers will replace the fifth wheels for free. The recall is expected to begin this month.

Mack is recalling approximately 448 model year 2011-2014 Pinnacle (CHU and CXU) trucks manufactured between Sept. 10, 2010, and June 17, 2013. Mack will notify owners, and Fontaine dealers will replace the fifth wheel for free. The recall is expected to begin Nov. 2.

Volvo Trucks North America is recalling approximately 670 model year 2011-2013 VAH, VNL and VNM trucks manufactured between June 21, 2010, and Dec. 14, 2012. Volvo will notify owners, and Fontaine dealers will replace the fifth wheel for free. The recall is expected to begin Nov. 2.
