Tech news from ATA: PeopleNet partners with Samsung, Omnitracs releases nav system, driver monitoring systems get updates

The American Trucking Associations’ annual Management Conference and Exhibition is taking place this week in Philadelphia, and from it have come several trucking software or device-related news announcements.

PeopleNet, Samsung partner on e-log app for phone/tablets

 Electronic logging device provider PeopleNet announced it has partnered with Samsung to offer PeopleNet software on Samsung devices. The new off-the-shelf mobility option allows fleets to deploy proprietary company apps, approved third-party programs and PeopleNet software on the same device.

Omnitracs unveils truck nav system

Omnitracs at the show announced the addition of Omnitracs Navigation to its app portfolio. The platform collects truck route data from more than 250,000 customers that use Omnitracs’ in-cab mobile computing systems that contribute over four billion data points. The driver interface for Omnitracs Navigation provides alert information to drivers with near real-time updates, Omnitracs says.

Lytx releases new driver monitoring system

Lytx announced the launch of a new service, ActiveVision, that finds patterns in driver behavior that can point to distracted or drowsy driving, such as lane departures and following distances. It uses video recordings to pinpoint causes and shares that information with fleets. It also triggers alerts to drivers.

SmartDrive introduces single-camera driver monitoring system:

SmartDrive announced a “light version” of its video-based monitoring system that deploys just a single forward-facing camera, rather than both a forward- and driver-facing camera.

PrePass

PrePass expands service: HELP Inc., provider of PrePass weigh station bypass services, has expanded its PrePass Plus electronic toll payment services to California and Kansas with its new ElitePass transponder. The company says Oklahoma, Texas and several other states will be online soon.
