Edmonton-Based Trucking Firm Faces Fines

An Edmonton-based trucking company is facing over CAN$3 (US$2.2) million in commercial-vehicle-related fines, according to the Edmonton Sun.

The city police Commercial Vehicle Inspection Detail began a probe Sept. 25 after getting information about a local trucking company that was said to be carrying loads over the allowed weight limits. Calculations based on the weight overages equate to 7,422 tons of soil moved illegally, according to the report.

The stress on the roadways from overweight vehicles can cause cracks and potholes, according to the report.

The Edmonton-based trucking company faces over 1,900 charges under the Traffic Safety Act for operating overweight vehicle and the total fine amounts to CAN$3,042,719 (US$2,279,309). The company is due in court on Dec. 3, according to the report.
