The Cahill-Swift LLC consultancy introduced this week its “FMCSA Accident” iPhone app, available for free download and designed to “help trucking and bus companies make the right decision on when to send employees for drug and alcohol testing after an accident.”
Soon also to be available for Android devices, says Cahill-Swift, the app offers an intuitive design to allow carriers to easily assess whether or not an event is an FMCSA-qualified accident and directs you to either administer post-accident drug and alcohol testing or prohibit such testing from being conducted.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requires that all accidents be evaluated to determine if federal post-accident drug and alcohol testing is required. The requirements, detailed in 49 Code of Federal Regulations, Part 382.303, are distilled in the easy-to-use app, the company says. “We are confident that FMCSA Accident will give you peace of mind whenever you may need to determine if a federal post-accident drug and alcohol test is necessary,” simply. “Though accident scenes are chaotic, your decision-making process doesn’t have to be.”
Once decisions are made, a summary email is sent from within the app to the employer’s relevant supervisors, third party administrator, or any designated person with a brief description of the accident.
If federal testing is required, the employer is reminded to ensure that the test is performed in a manner compliant with 49 CFR, Part 40.
