A lawsuit could slow the roll out of wheelchair-accessible taxis in New York City because the approved vehicles don't meet the city's requirements, reports Capital New York.
The city's Taxi and Limousine Commission has approved Nissan's NV200 compact van for use in the fleet, but the van isn't offered with a gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain. The commission hasn't approved a vehicle that's both a hybrid and wheelchair accessible.
The NV200 required modifications to make it wheelchair accessible, a point of contention with advocates for the disabled, the New York Times has reported.
