U.S. diesel average drops to $2.211 a gallon

For the eighth consecutive week, diesel prices have dropped across the United States.

The average price of a gallon of on-highway diesel now stands at $2.211 per gallon, down 2.4 cents from last week. This is the lowest national average since the week of May 4, 2009.

The most significant drop in fuel prices came in the Rocky Mountain region, where prices dropped 3.6 cents. Fuel prices only went up in one region – the West Coast less California region – by 1.1 cent.

The nation’s most expensive diesel can be found in California at $2.595 per gallon, followed by the Central Atlantic region at $2.391 per gallon.

The cheapest fuel can be found in the Gulf Coast region at $2.114 per gallon, followed by the Midwest region at $2.13 per gallon.

Prices in other regions are as follows:

  • New England – $2.344
  • Lower Atlantic – $2.143
  • Rocky Mountain – $2.191
  • West Coast less California – $2.303
