Volkswagen's top committee will meet on Feb. 3 to discuss the next steps the company should take as it deals with the ongoing aftermath of the diesel emissions scandal, according to a report by Reuters.

VW also stated that an internal investigation into the scandal was proceeding and the automaker plans to give its first public results on the matter on April 21 at an annual shareholders' general meeting.

Preliminary results from the automaker's internal investigation cited the diesel software cheat was openly discussed back in 2006 and many managers and staff working on emissions issues helped develop the "defeat devices," according to a Jan. 23 report from Reuters.

This committee meeting, the third in three weeks, follows the automaker's previous meeting with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) on Jan. 13. The company's clean diesel fix plan was rejected during that meeting.
