LG Chem Power will supply the batteries for the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivan. Development of these battery packs will take place at the South Korea-based supplier's plant in Holland, Mich.

Engineering of the battery pack was done at LG Chem Power's Troy research center, according to a report by the Detroit Free Press.

Owners will be able to recharge the battery pack in two hours if they use a 240-volt plug-in system, or between 12 and 14 hours using a 110-volt charger. The battery pack will be found under the floor beneath the second row of passenger seats.

The charging port is located on the front fender on the driver's side.

The Pacifica Hybrid, the first electrified minivan sold in the U.S., will deliver an estimated range of 30 miles on electric power from a 16-kilowatt-per-hour lithium-ion battery, according to a release from the automaker. In city driving, it is expected to achieve an efficiency rating of 80 MPGe based on U.S. Environmental Protection Agency standards.

Once the battery's charge runs out, the Pacifica Hybrid switches to running on gasoline, powered by a 3.6L V-6 gasoline engine.

LG Chem already provides battery packs for the first and second generations of the Chevrolet Volt and the all-electric Chevrolet Bolt.
