FMCSA chief Scott Darling’s nomination could proceed in Senate on Thursday

The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation is scheduled to hold a session Thursday, March 3 to vote on President Obama’s nomination of T.F. Scott Darling III to become the next administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

Darling was nominated by Obama in August and underwent Senate confirmation hearings in January. He has headed FMCSA since August 2014, following the resignation of then-Administrator Anne Ferro.

He was referred to as the acting administrator for seven months, though the title was removed due to federal law last March. He’s since continued to lead the agency, however, despite the title change.

If Darling is confirmed by the committee, he still must be confirmed by the full Senate before being named FMCSA’s administrator.
