Toyota Recalls RAV4 SUVs for Seat Belt Issue

Toyota Motor Sales USA is recalling approximately 1.12 million 2006-2012 model-year RAV4 and 2012-2014 RAV4 EV SUVs so dealers can address a problem related to the lap-shoulder seat belts, the automaker said.

These vehicles are equipped with lap-shoulder seat belts in both second-row outboard seats. In the event of a very severe frontal crash, the lap belt webbing might contact a portion of the metal seat cushion frame, become cut and separate, according to Toyota.

“If this occurs, the seat belt may not properly restrain the occupant, which could increase the risk of injury,” Toyota said in a released statement. To resolve the problem, Toyota dealers will add resin covers to the metal seat cushion frame at no cost to the vehicle owner.

Vehicle owners can reach Toyota customer service at (800) 331-4331.
