Ford Recalls Multiple Models for Air Bag Modules

Ford Motor Co. is issuing a safety compliance recall for 199 2007-2012 model-year Ford Flex, Taurus, Lincoln MKS and Mercury Sable vehicles in North America to replace the driver air bag module.

In certain vehicles, the chemical enhancer for the second-stage air bag deployment could be missing from the module, Ford said in a released statement. The absence of the chemical enhancer may increase the risk of an injury in a crash that requires second-stage deployment. This condition, however, doesn’t affect primary-stage air bag deployment.

Dealers will replace the driver airbag module at no cost to the customer.

The issue is unrelated to the Takata air bag inflator safety recall.

Ford said it isn’t aware of any accidents, injuries or fires related to this condition. The vehicles involved were built at Chicago Assembly Plant and Oakville Assembly from Dec. 13, 2007 through Oct. 6, 2011.
