Ford has beefed up the axles, brakes, hitch, and suspension of its 2017 Super Duty pickups, after removing 350 pounds in weight-saving aluminum body panels, the automaker has announced.

The 2017 Super Duty will get an upgraded suspension, stronger axles, and bigger brake calipers and rotors to extend the truck's payload capability. Ford is also adding a new fully-boxed frame to replace the ladder frame of the prior model with 95% high-strength steel. The new frame is 24 times stiffer than the previous frame to increase stability during towing maneuvers.

Ford provided three companies a sneak preview of the 2017 Super Duty upgrades, including Stacey Nelson, supply chain transformation senior manager at Black Hills Corp.; Nate Berges of Berges Trenton Awning; and Josh Morris, a power grid electrician.
