Honda has brought back the Accord Hybrid for 2017 with a new two-motor hybrid powertrain that gives it the highest EPA fuel economy ratings of any midsize hybrid sedan, providing 49 mpg in city driving, Honda announced.

The 2017 Accord Hybrid will also deliver 47 mpg on the highway and 48 mpg in combined driving cycles. The vehicle will conform to new fuel-economy testing by the U.S. Enviornmental Protection Agency to reflect real-world driving. The vehicle is powered by an ultra-efficient 2.0L i-VTEC Atkinson Cycle engine and lithium-ion battery pack. Honda released few details about the powertrain, which operates in three modes, including EV Drive, Hybrid Drive, and Engine Drive.

The vehicle will be offered in three trim levels, including Hybrid, Hybrid EX-L, and Hybrid Touring. Stand features across the board include a wide-angle rear-view camera, remote engine start, and Honda Sensing, which offers driver-assistive technologies.

Pricing for the vehicle has not been announced. The 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid will debut at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, Calif., on April 23-24 at part of its Earth Day celebration.
