Nissan North America is recalling 12,616 2016 model-year Murano SUVs and Maxima sedans equipped with an antilock braking system (ABS) and Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.

At issue are Murano SUVs manufactured from Dec. 17, 2015, to Feb. 11, 2016, and Maxima sedans manufactured from Nov. 25, 2015, to Feb. 12, 2016. In these vehicles, the ABS actuator may have a damaged O-ring, which could lead to a lack of brake fluid pressure.

Insufficient brake fluid pressure may lengthen the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash,” NHTSA said on its website.

Nissan dealers will inspect and replace the ABS actuator, as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin by June 4. Vehicle owners can reach Nissan customer service at (800) 647-7261.
