Tesla Nears 300-Mile EV Range

A Tesla Model S sedan can travel nearly 300 miles on a single charge, which is almost triple that of the nearest competitor, according to a recent rating by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

A 2016 Model S all-wheel-drive 90D fitted with a 90-kilowatt-per-hour battery pack can travel 294 miles on a single charge in combined driving cycles. The EPA has rated the vehicle's miles per gallon equivalent at 101 in the city and 107 on the highway.

The rating is nearly triple that of any other competitor. Other battery-electric vehicles available from Nissan, BMW, or Volkswagen offer a range of about 100 miles. Nissan's 2016 Leaf with the 30-kilowwatte-per-hour battery pack provides 107 miles, while BMW's 2016 i3 BEV provides 81 miles. The Volkswagen e-Golf provides 83 miles.
