Toyota Motor Sales USA is recalling approximately 4,170 2016 model-year Toyota RAV4 SUVs and 12,400 Lexus ES 350 sedans because their brake actuator assemblies might be damaged, the automaker said.
The recall also covers 90 2016 Lexus RX 350 SUVs.
These vehicles are equipped with a brake actuator assembly that enables enhanced brake control functions such as the anti-lock braking system, traction control and vehicle stability control.
A component inside the actuator might have been damaged during manufacturing, preventing it from operating properly, Toyota said. This could cause a loss of vehicle stability control, increasing the risk of crash.
Toyota and Lexus dealers will check the serial number of the brake actuator and replace those assembled during a specific production period.
