Ford's 2017 model year Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid can travel an EPA-rated 610 miles on a single charge and full tank of gasoline, a nearly 11% increase over the outgoing model.
The Fusion Energi also provides an estimated 21 miles of all-electric range.
For the 2017 model, Ford made changes to the mid-size sedan's hybrid powertrain software and regenerative braking that recycles energy to the battery otherwise lost when drivers hit the brakes.
Once the car depletes the charge, the gas engine kicks in for another 588 miles of range, according to EPA estimates.
