Toyota Motor Sales USA is recalling approximately 3,100 2015 model-year Yaris hatchbacks because they might have damaged front upper shock assembly bearings, the automaker said.

If the shock assembly bearing is damaged, the driver may hear unusual noises while traveling on rough road surfaces or when turning the steering wheel.

"If the vehicle continues to be operated in this condition, a front shock absorber piston rod could separate, causing a loss of vehicle stability and increasing the risk of a crash,” Toyota warned in a released statement about the recall.

Toyota dealers will replace the strut mounting bearings with improved ones. If a strut mounting bearing is found to damaged, the dealer will replace the strut and front suspension support subassembly with a new one.

Toyota customer service can be reached at (800) 331-4331.
