Volvo Car USA is recalling 29,697 2016 model-year XC90 luxury SUVs because occupants might inadvertently close the sunroof, posing an injury risk, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.
The recall covers vehicles manufactured from Jan. 27, 2015, to April 23 of this year.
“The sunroofs on the affected vehicles have a switch on the overhead console that may not be adequately recessed to prevent the switch from being unintentionally pressed,” NHTSA explained on its website. “When pressed, the sunroof may fully close.”
As a result, the vehicle doesn’t comply with all federal safety standards.
Volvo dealers will perform a software upgrade that disables the auto-close function, free of charge, NHTSA said. The recall is expected to begin June 20.
