ALD partners with Autocorp in Argentina

ALD automotive

In his presentation at the Global Fleet Conference 2016 in Brussels, ALD International’s CCO Kent Bjertrup announced a new partnership for the global fleet company: Autocorp, one of Argentina’s leading providers of rental and leasing services.

ALD’s presentation was one of several newsworthy presentations by fleet and lease companies on the Conference’s second day.

“We are eager to provide a complete solution to our customers in South America, and while we already have a presence in Brazil, Chile and Peru, Argentina still was a ‘misssing link’ in our regional offering”, says Stéphane Renie, Sales & Marketing Director at ALD International. “We decided that it would be most efficient to search for a partner with local knowledge and local roots, and Autocorp was a logical choice”.
Market specifics
Autocorp will help ALD extend its global offering to the Argentine fleet market. “They obviously have extensive knowledge in how to deal with the market specifics – Argentina has very high interest rates, for example. We are betting on future growth in Argentina; the economic situation is still a bit chaotic, but when things improve, we will be ready, thanks to our new partnership”.
Alberto Vélez, CEO of Autocorp, is pleased with the partnership – a Southern American pendant of ALD’s partnership with Wheels in North America. “This will allow us to meet global standards in products and service, attracting business from international clients with a presence in Argentina. We expect the agreement to kick in from next year, and be fully implemented by 2018”.
Usual suspects
ALD’s news came in a series of presentations by major fleet and lease companies, detailing their current and future global coverage strategy. José Luis Criado, Managing Director of LeasePlan International, affirmed his company’s focus on South America, where it already has a presence in Brazil. “The rest of the continent is a bit of a black hole for us; we will concentrate on extending our coverage there. I can’t tell you yet in which South American countries we will be opening next, but I can tell you it will happen soon”. On the other side of the world, LeasePlan’s recently opened hub in Malaysia is only the beginning of the South-East Asia expansion, Criado said: “There will be three of four more countries”. Not naming any names, he coyly stated: “They will be the usual suspects”. The unique international element of LeasePlan that suits efficiency in fleet management harmonisation, is the fact that LeasePlan has only fully-owned subsidiaries in the 33 countries where LeasePlan operates internationally.
White spots

Alessandro Pigazzi, Director International Business Office at Arval, was able to boast 3 million managed vehicles in nearly 50 countries thanks to its global alliance with Element – and the absorption of GE’s fleet business. “A lot has happened last year and this year”, Pigazzi said. Including also a new partnership in Serbia (Fleet Partner) and joint ventures in South America (Arval-Relsa) and China (Arval-Jiutong).

Starting as a small garage in the Hague in 1916, Athlon celebrates its centenary as a truly global company, thanks in large part to a spurt of growth in the last decade, said Michiel Alferink, VP International Commerce and Sales. The company expanded into Poland, Portugal and Sweden. “Our most recent addition is an office in Switzerland, six months ago”. Partnerships in Ireland, Russia and Turkey paint an even more complete picture. “But we still have white spots. We are interested in the Norwegian and Danish markets, where mobility is developing fast. In fact, we will be concentrating on developing mobility, rather than expanding heavily into Latin America or Asia”.
Mobility Consulting
For Sixt Leasing, International Development Vera Asam painted a picture of a company fully invested in the transition “from material to service, from property to sharing, from TCO to TCM, from satisfaction to excitement”. Sixt Leasing offers services in 105 countries, with a ‘glocal’ angle.
Mark Bryan, ARI’s Senior VP Europe, was keen to underline the American company’s expanding footprint in Europe and across the globe, via its own subsidiaries (global total of 1.2 million managed vehicles) and through strategic partnerships (bringing the total to 2 million). ARI’s open-end lease product, currently on offer in the UK, will soon also be available in the Benelux and France.
Plug in
Fleet Logistics International, backed by its globally present partner TÜV Süd, does not have to worry about global rollouts. The company has hubs in Asia and South America. As for new markets, “we follow our customers. If our parent is already there, we can simply ‘plug in’, and be up and running in a few month’s time”.
“We are the youngest, but not the smallest global lease company”, said Knut Krösche of Volkswagen Financial Services. VWFS global reach is facilitated by the 51 markets were its parent brand is present. The company has started a worldwide rollout of its fleet management solutions, which have been implemented in France, Germany, the UK, China, Brazil, Australia and a host of other countries. In a number of other markets, the implementation is ongoing. “We are looking to conclude the process soon in Ireland, Turkey and South Africa”. With others to follow.
