Hyundai’s new Tucson MY-2017 compact SUV offers new interior and exterior design, safety features, and connectivity options, according to the automaker. The Tucson is available in four models, all available in either front-wheel or all-wheel drive.
The SE model features a 2.0L direct-injected four-cylinder Nu engine with an estimated 164 hp and 151 lb.-ft. of torque, coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission. EPA fuel economy for the 2.0L FWD model is rated at 23 mpg city/30 mpg highway/26 mpg combined.
Eco, Sport and Limited models offer a 1.6L turbocharged, direct-injected four-cylinder with an estimated 175 hp and 195 lb.-ft. of torque. EPA fuel economy for this powertrain on Eco FWD models is 26 mpg city/32 mpg highway/28 mpg combined. Sport and Limited FWD turbo engine models are rated at 25 mpg city/30 mpg highway/27 mpg combined.
The AWD system includes a driver-selectable AWD lock that allows a differentiated torque split between front and rear wheels, for off-road and extremely slippery road conditions. The system also includes active cornering control, which automatically transfers torque to the wheels with the most traction.
Safety features include AEB with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning system, blind spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, lane change assist, backup warning sensors, and standard rearview camera.
New technology options include a standard five-inch color LCD display with rearview camera and touchscreen function, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Apple Siri Eyes Free integration. Hyundai Blue Link connectivity offers technology such as remote start with climate control, remote stop, destination search powered by Google, remote door lock/unlock, car finder, and stolen vehicle recovery.
The front-wheel drive SE model retails for $22,700, the Eco for $24,150, the Sport for $25,900, and the Limited for $29,775. All-wheel drive adds an additional $1,400 to all models’ prices.
