Westport Fuel Systems has elevated Nancy Gougarty to chief executive from her role as president and chief operating officer, the vehicle modifier has announced.
Gougarty is replacing David Demers, who will retire and remain available to the new leadership team in an advisory role during the transition. She has served as Wesport's COO since July of 2013.
"Nancy has proven her ability to work through complex development projects with major global original equipment manufacturers with a clear sense of what drives profits," said Warren J. Baker, Westport's chairman. "Her most recent collaborative efforts leading the integration teams following the merger with Fuel Systems Solutions, Inc. highlighted her skill in managing diverse groups across Europe, Asia and North America while stewarding key relationships with suppliers and joint venture partners."
Gougarty will also join the Westport Board of Directors. Demers is stepping down. Demers has served as CEO and a member of the board since the company was formed in March of 1995.
