Dubai police have received four Toyota Prius cars from Al-Futtaim Motors, bringing the total number of hybrids in the fleet to 10, according to a report by The Gulf Today. Al-Futtaim Motors is the country’s exclusive distributor of Toyota.
The move is part of the Dubai police’s commitment to preserving the environment and natural resources, according to the report.
Earlier this year, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that half of Dubai’s taxi fleet would be hybrid vehicles by 2021. Currently, there are around 150 hybrid taxis. The number will rise to 4,750 in five years. This will result in a reduction of carbon emissions of up to 30%, according to the RTA.
