Mazda3 Gets Light Update for 2017

The Mazda3 returns for the 2017 model year with light updates, including more standard content on the highest trim grade, technology that improves handling, and simplified trim levels.

Mazda has also set pricing for the 2017 Mazda3. The Mazda3, which was fully redesigned for the 2014-MY, will be offered in eight models for 2017. The Sport with 6-speed automatic transmission — the model with the highest adoption by commercial fleets — will retail for $19,730, which is a $15 increase from the outgoing model. Most notably, the 2017 Mazda3 adds a technology known as G-Vectoring Control that shifts weight to the front of the car and cuts a minimal amount of torque to the engine to improve steering.

The vehicle also simplifies the trim levels. Mazda will offer the compact car as a sedan or hatchback in the Sport, Touring and Grand Touring trim grades. Mazda has dropped the "i" (for 2.0L engine) and "s" (for 2.5L engine) from its nomenclature even though it will carryover the two engines — the SkyActiv-G 2.0L or 2.5L four-cylinder that make 155 hp or 184 hp respectively. Mazda will continue to offer the 6-speed automatic or 6-speed manual.

The 2.0L engine will be available with the Sport sedan, Sport hatchback and Touring sedan, while the 2.5L will be available with the Touring hatchback, Grand Touring sedan and Grand Touring hatchback.
