Volvo Cars of North America is recalling 43,766 2016- to 2017-model year Volvo XC90 and S90 vehicles because a potential air conditioning system problem might affect air bag deployment during a crash, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.
In these vehicles, the drain hose for the air conditioning may leak into the passenger compartment because of an installation error. Such water drainage might compromise air bag deployment in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury, NHTSA reported on its website.
The recall covers vehicles manufactured from April 15, 2015, through Sept. 19, 2016.
Volvo dealers will inspect the air conditioning drain hose and replace it, if necessary, to resolve the problem. There will be no charge for this service.
The recall is expected to begin Nov. 14. Vehicle owners can reach Volvo at (800) 458-1552. Volvo’s number for this campaign is R89707.
