FCA US is recalling an estimated 74,833 2007- to 2013-model year Ram trucks and chassis cabs as well as 2011- to 2014-MY Dodge Charger Pursuit police cars because diodes inside the alternators might wear out and lead to a short-circuit, Reuters reported.
The condition can result in an engine stall or a vehicle fire. Dealers will replace the alternators, free of charge, to resolve the problem, according to the report.
The recall includes Ram 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks, along with Ram 3500, 4500, and 5500 chassis cabs. FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) said the company is aware of one injury that may be related but no crashes.
In addition to the 74,833 vehicles recalled in the U.S., FCA is recalling 10,077 in Canada and 1,088 in Mexico for the same defect. A total of 134 vehicles will be recalled outside of North America.
FCA will notify vehicle owners when they can schedule service for the remedy.
