Subaru Recalls Legacy, Outback for Knee Guard

Subaru of America is recalling 54 2017-model year Legacy and Outback vehicles because the knee guard bracket may not be properly attached to the steering beam assembly, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

As a result, if the driver isn’t wearing a seat belt, the knee guard may not properly restrain the driver’s lower body during a crash. This condition raises the risk of injury, NHTSA said.

The recall covers Legacy and Outback cars manufactured Sept. 21-23 of this year.

Subaru dealers will inspect the knee guard welding on each vehicle’s steering beam, replacing the beam when warranted. There will be no charge for this service.

Vehicle owners can reach Subaru customer service at (800) 782-2783. Subaru's number for this recall is WTL-72.
