Automotive safety system supplier Autoliv is recalling 16,604 air bag initiators because they may lead to air bag malfunction, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
This recall is an expansion of a previous Autoliv recall. The company has notified the automakers that have used the defective parts in their vehicles, and these vehicle manufacturers will file new recalls as needed, NHTSA said.
The AI2 Air Bag Initiators at issue were manufactured from June 16 to Nov. 4 in 2016. They contain an improper generant mix ratio that may prevent the air bags from deploying properly during a crash.
