The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is making available marketing materials to help companies and communities launch safety campaigns aimed at preventing drunken driving over the upcoming July 4th holiday weekend.

The 4th of July weekend traditionally ushers in summer and is a time when Americans celebrate the nation’s birth with family, friends, firework displays and barbecues. But this is also one of the deadliest holiday periods of the year because of drunk driving crashes.

Over the 4th of July holiday period in 2015, 146 people were killed in crashes involving at least one driver or motorcycle operator with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher, according to NHTSA. Additionally, 92 people died in crashes involving at least one driver or motorcycle operator with a BAC of .15 or higher — almost twice the legal limit.

Fleet managers and human resources departments interested in using NHTSA’s materials in an upcoming safety campaign can download them by clicking here and here.
