GM's CEO Barra's Role on Trump Panel Ends

General Motors' CEO Mary Barra is no longer working with President Donald Trump as part of his initiative that set up two panels for business leaders to discuss pressing economic topics.

Members of the manufacturing council and strategic and policy forum disbanded the panels following controversy over a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, reported Reuters.

Barra issued a statement to GM employees following the end of her role with the panels.

"General Motors is about unity and inclusion and so am I," Barra said. "Recent events, particularly those in Charlottesville, Virginia, and its aftermath, require that we come together as a country and reinforce values and ideals that unite us — tolerance, inclusion and diversity — and speak against those which divide us — racism, bigotry and any politics based on ethnicity."

Trump took to Twitter to claim he was ending the panels and said, "Rather than putting pressure on the businesspeople of the Manufacturing Council & Strategy & Policy Forum, I am ending both. Thank you all!"

In June, Tesla CEO Elon Musk stepped away from the group following Trump's withdrawl from the Paris climate accord.
