The Hyundai Motor Co. plans to produce a long-range battery-electric sedan under its Genesis brand as a Tesla fighter that would provide a range of 310 miles, reports Reuters.
The move marks a shift for an automaker that has promoted fuel cell technology like Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co.
In addition to the long-range sedan, Hyundai also plans to introduce an electric version of its Kona compact SUV in South Korea that would offer a range of 242 miles (390 kilometers).
Hyundai and sister automaker Kia Motors Corp. plan to add three plug-in vehicles, which would bring their total electrified models to 31 by 2020.
