Ford Recalls Pickups for Seat Belts, Roofs

Ford Motor Co. is recalling 504 2017-model year Ford F-150 and Super Duty pickup trucks in the U.S. because of potential seat belt failure, the automaker said.

The trucks at issue may have insufficient weld penetration on the seat belt buckle attachment bracket on front passenger manual seats, Ford said. A seat track with this condition may not have enough weld penetration between the seat belt anchor and seat cushion frame. As a result, the occupant may not be adequately restrained during a crash.

Ford noted, however, that the company isn’t aware of any accidents or injuries linked to the problem. Ford dealers will resolve the issue by replacing the front passenger manual seat track.

In addition to the recalled trucks in the U.S., Ford is recalling 57 trucks in Canada and 63 in Mexico for the same problem. The reference number for this recall is 17C17.

In a separate action, the automaker is also recalling 42 2018 Ford F-150 Raptor SuperCab trucks that don’t have moon roofs. In these trucks, structural braces in the roof may be missing rivets in their attachment to the roof rail structure.

“Vehicles with missing roof brace rivets may have reduced structural integrity, potentially increasing the risk of injury in a rollover,” Ford warned in a released statement.

Ford again added that it isn’t aware of any accidents or injuries tied to the problem. Dealers will install rivets for the roof brace attachments to fix the problem. The reference number for this recall is 17S29.
