Q. My company operates trucks and trailers solely to move our laboratories (the trailers) to and from industrial facilities. Could we qualify for an exemption under the drive-away / tow-away rule?

A. While drive-away-tow-away operations are exempt from having to use an ELD, all questions regarding exemptions should be directed to your legal counsel and/or referred to the FMCSA.

Keep in mind that even if your drivers are exempted from using an ELD, under the ELD Mandate they would still be required to keep hours of service (HOS) records of duty status (RODS) either on paper, using an AOBRD, or a logging software program.
