Fleet is transitioning to a business dominated by high-tech innovation. Vehicles are transforming into rolling computers. Everything from engine diagnostics data to license plates to insurance cards are now being digitized and immediately available for analysis.
The impacts of advanced data analysis and technologies like telematics, artificial intelligence, crowd sourcing and alternative energy sources are already being seen across the fleet landscape. Now fleet managers must prepare to evaluate new business models such as ridesharing and other mobility solutions, and even the eventual integration of autonomous vehicles.
To navigate the changes, fleet managers will need to draw on their diverse experience in areas like operations, sales, HR, finance, facilities and procurement. They are using these skills to develop increasingly creative solutions to be best-in-class, reduce costs, improve safety and drive sustainability, in order to balance a complex set of business priorities both in North America and globally. Many have successfully done this as their industries were undergoing significant upheaval.
Recognizing Success
The AF Professional Fleet Manager of the Year Award recognizes and appreciates the achievements of fleet managers who have not only embraced these challenges but turned them into competitive advantages. The fact that there were so many outstanding nominees is a testament to the fleet profession having many talented people who are well-equipped to tackle whatever the future may bring.
Congratulations to John Dmochowsky, senior global fleet manager at Mondelez International, and all the award nominees who bring tremendous experience to their companies and our industry as a whole. Members of this exclusive group average over 20 years’ experience, a rare achievement in corporate America these days. Despite the complexity of their roles, many nominees also find time to share their knowledge. They attend industry events like AFLA, serve on advisory boards, and give their time as speakers and as mentors.
The fleet industry will continue to evolve and change faster than ever before, and that’s what makes it challenging, interesting and fun. We commend our fellow fleet managers on their successes and look forward to what the future brings.
